Virtual Stability
Predict shelf life before you reach the lab
Stability intelligence that saves months of bench testing.
Stability testing is one of the most time-consuming phases of cosmetic product development. Traditional approaches require months of accelerated aging studies before a formulator knows whether their creation will survive on the shelf. COSMIC's Virtual Stability module provides a data-driven prediction of formula stability before a single batch is manufactured.
The assessment evaluates five critical dimensions. Microbiological risk: water activity analysis, preservative system efficacy at the formula's pH, and microbial growth potential. Oxidation susceptibility: identification of oxidation-prone ingredients (unsaturated oils, retinoids, ascorbic acid) and evaluation of the antioxidant shield. Photostability: UV-sensitive components and their protection mechanisms. pH adequacy: compatibility of all ingredients with the target pH range, and preservative efficacy at that pH. Physical stability: emulsion type validation, HLB balance, phase separation risk, and rheology prediction.
Eighteen specific validation rules are applied automatically to every formula. These rules are derived from years of formulation expertise and published stability data. They check for known failure modes: incompatible ingredient pairs, insufficient emulsification, oxidation cascades, pH-driven degradation, and preservative inactivation.
A proprietary stability classifier predicts the probability that the formula will remain stable under standard storage conditions, giving your team a confidence score before any lab work begins. This does not eliminate the need for physical stability testing — but it ensures that the formulas reaching the bench have the highest possible probability of success.
